The Alpaca Association of Western Oregon (AAWO) is hosting an educational seminar on how to evaluate your alpaca fiber presented by AOA senior fleece judge Cheryl Gehly.  The seminar is on June 1st from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm at the Marjorie Stewart Community Center in Sherwood, OR.  The seminar is free for paid members of AAWO and is $85 for nonmembers.

This seminar will focus on the importance of uniformity of micron as the primary fleece consideration in breeding decisions. We will explore how to identify uniformity within the prime blanket area, as well as establishing measurable components to be tracked annually.  Participants should bring fleeces from their herd to evaluate during the seminar.  Decision-making strategies based on generational gain will be emphasized.  There will also do an brief introduction to fleece evaluation and how to skirt a fleece before we go into a deep dive on how to evaluate uniformity in a fleece.
